Modest Outfit By Ruthie – Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

Ever since Ruthie was little, she has always liked big, bold patterns and bright colors!  Her style has always been unique and a bit different from the rest of us girls 🙂  With her sewing skills and talent with using fabric, she manages to put together outfits that suit her tastes and most of us usually agree that they are pretty!

Pardon the photo-bomber!  Cricket (who belongs to Ruthie) decided that she wanted to be in the pictures too!  The pink cardigan used to belong to Abigail and she purchased it from eBay years ago.  Apparently the listing no longer exists but you can find a similar one on Amazon.  Ruthie bought the light blue top from Abigail for $5 – it originally came from Goodwill 🙂 Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

Abigail bought this skirt from a thrift store for a few dollars and planned to give it to Lydia.  She didn’t care for it so much so it ended up being a hand-me-up for Ruthie!  It originally had a crocheted blue tier on the bottom also but it would snag on things, so she took it off.Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

See the pretty sleeves on the cardigan?  And the ruffle flowers on the collar of the top?  Those are the type of little touches that Ruthie really likes!Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

We purchased the headcovering in Israel many years ago.  It’s very hard to find this color nowadays, which is sad because I would like to stock it on our shop.  She is wearing the Lovely Circle bobby pins, which we use often.  I like how they are simple but elegant.Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

Another accessory!  Have you ever wondered how to hold together the loose ends of a cardigan?  Ruthie uses a flexi-clip on hers!  This one is an x-small Freestyle Tiara.Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

And one more just because!  No actually, this photo was taken because we are updating our puppy website and needed new bio photos for the family page 🙂Modest Outfit By Ruthie - Hot Pinks, Bright Blues & Pretty Ruffles!

Lydia & Outfit: White Skirt, Pink Polka Dots & Classy Country Apron

Today I am sharing outfit pictures of my little sister Lydia … but she is not very little anymore!  For the last few days, she keeps talking about almost being taller than me and she is right!  I did not want to admit it but the mirror is showing me that it won’t be long at all!

It is so amazing how quickly time flies by.  Just the other night I was looking at some old pictures with Hannah, and Lydia was an adorable little baby!  Now she is a beautiful young lady!  Friends, time is fleeting … enjoy each moment with the loved ones around you!

Summer Days And Polka Dots – A Modest Outfit Post

Hello Ladies!

I hope this finds you all doing fantastic!  If not, then just know that you are loved and cared for by a Mighty God who never falls asleep on the throne … He has got it all under control!  So don’t lose heart; stand steadfast in Him and keep fighting for the glorious victory is ahead!

Hannah had asked for me to get outfit pictures yesterday, so as I scanned my wardrobe (that isn’t very big), I grabbed the outfit below, since I knew it hadn’t been featured on RF yet.  Later I realized that I’d picked a green blouse, which made me laugh in light of the post I’d shared two weeks ago about Ruthie’s outfit!

Anyway … I do have to apologize for the bad lighting … I am not a photographer, so I don’t understand the whole lighting thing!  We got outside after the sun sunk below the hill (it’s cooler that way!) and Abigail told me the lighting wasn’t the best … but I felt sure it would be okay!  Well, she was right!  The pictures are okay, but the lighting is not 100% accurate … mainly with my blouse … in real life it is a deeper, brighter, fresh green color.

When I saw this blouse at the store, I wondered whether I should get it because I don’t normally wear green (I think I only have one other green shirt)!  I liked the green & white polka dots though, so I decided to try it and only paid a dollar or two for it (it’s hard to turn down a new outfit experiment for such a cheap price!).  Abigail gave me this skirt awhile back and it is so comfy!  It is my “go-to” denim skirt … so durable and yet stylish.  I think she got it at the thrift store for a couple dollars.Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

My sandals are Clarks … I got them off Amazon two years ago.  They cost $50 (including shipping), but I got them for $40 because I used two $5 dollar Swagbucks Amazon cards!  I love these sandals, they are so comfortable and SO lightweight.  I wore them throughout our remodeling and moving experience last year, and they are still in GREAT condition!  Sadly, Amazon does not have this particular design for sale any more, but here are two other listings that are the same style: Leisa Daisy Sandals and Leisa Apple SandalsIf you need a pair of durable, but classy and comfortable sandals that will last you years … I highly recommend these!Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

I am still not sure if green is my color so I enjoy pairing it with this fruity burnt berry color … but Lydia strongly objects that these colors don’t go together :/  Oh well, you can’t please everyone, right?! 😉  Seriously, this blouse has become one of my regular casual, run-to-town tops!Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

My headcovering came from Hannah’s Headcoverings.  Sadly this color is no longer in stock … and I’ll admit, it’s my fault … I bought the last two because I LOVED the color so much!  We’ll have to see if we can get some more next time we’re in Israel!Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

Lately I have been braiding my hair and putting it up with Lilla Rose U-pins.  These particular ones are the Tiara style.  I had tried u-pins a couple years ago, but the pair we had were too big, so I never tried them again.  Recently though, I decided to try them again because we had a smaller pair!  I loved them!   But, I will have to say, I have not yet mastered the technique of putting them in correctly all the time … sometimes it takes a couple tries before I’m satisfied and they feel comfortable.  But hey, they are worth the couple tries!  They hold my bun in snugly and comfortably.Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

So, I personally go in spurts … sometimes I like wearing earrings everyday or pretty often, and other times, I will go weeks or months without wearing any!  That is kinda how it has been lately, but yesterday I felt like wearing some so I pulled these out of my jewelry box – I have had them for years!  I bought them from HFE Jewelry on Etsy.Summer Days And Polka Dots - A Modest Outfit Post

Well, that is all for now!  I hope you have enjoyed.  Have a blessed weekend.

A Denim Skirt, A Tunic And A Furry Friend – Modest Outfit Post

It’s that time again … another modest outfit post!

A Denim Skirt, A Tunic And A Furry Friend - Modest Outfit Post

Today I’m featuring a very important furry friend of mine – my black Labrador puppy Annabelle!  I’ve been working on photography for all our dogs so that we can update our very outdated dog website.  Since she needed her pictures, and Hannah’s been reminding me to get some outfit pictures for a long time, it just made sense to get my pics with her and then work with her afterwards!  Isn’t she a cutie???

The colors I’m wearing in these pictures might not be what you’d expect to see someone wearing in late July but the truth is, the weather and seasons affect my clothing choices very little!  I have a habit of wearing bright colors in wintertime and duller ones during summer … I don’t plan it that way, but I always seem to be a little behind or ahead of the season! 🙂 Read more

Going Green? – A Modest Outfit Post

How many of you know the 3 word definition of “Go Green”?  For those of you who don’t, they are, “reduce, reuse and recycle.”  I am NOT a go green, save the planet, earthy type of person … but at the same time, like with any thing (good or bad), there are some good points to consider.

I am not a huge recycling person … we do save our cans and recycle them, and we save our egg cartons and give them to neighbors, who kindly fill them with eggs 🙂

Reusing?!  I think that is what we do when we shop at thrift stores 🙂  But for your info … I think it is very inconsiderate for people to give their old raggy clothes to thrift stores!  If something is old and has holes or is stained … just throw it away!  It saves people a lot of time!  When I go to thrift stores, I like to find used, LIKE NEW clothes … sometimes they even have the store tags still on them!

But the most important of the 3 “R’s” that I want to talk about is … reducing!  No, I am not a minimalist … I like to live comfortably, but my family can also tell you that I don’t keep a lot of extra stuff!  Extra things just clutter and cause more work!  Several times I have helped my siblings clear out their rooms and I will ask them, piece by piece, “Is there sentimental attachment to this —?  When is the last time you used it?  When are you planning on using it?”

Each item may require a different time frame … but most likely if you haven’t used something for months or years, you’re probably not going to need it for a long time.  If it is not an expensive item, go ahead and get rid of it!  If you need it in two years, or whatever the number is, you can probably get another!  Now, I do have to clarify … there are most definitely exceptions to this “rule”!  There are some things that are very useful but you don’t use every day, week or month!

We Americans are very spoiled.  It is the truth.  We (for the most part) love the easy, comfortable life with lots of things to keep us entertained!  Awhile back a friend posted a statistics quote on her blog and while I don’t know that it is completely accurate … there is a lot of truth for us to chew on!

Go Green - A Modest Outfit Post

And please replace the word “luckier” with “blessed”!  I do not believe in luck … we serve a big God and His love reaches to the Heavens.

Reducing and downsizing looks different for each person but as we prayerfully consider what He would have us to do, let’s remember Matthew 6:19-21, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”

By the way, do you want to know what made me talk about the “go green” topic?  Ruthie’s outfit 🙂  Haha!  Every time I saw her … that’s all I could think of! 🙂

So, without any further ado!

A Day On The Lake (Modest Swimsuit Pictures)

I have been wanting to share a post with pictures of our modest swimsuits and it just so happened that we were provided with the perfect opportunity to get some photos recently!

A Day On The Lake (Modest Swimsuit Pictures)

Our friend Silas has been visiting from Maine to work here in Tennessee during the winter/spring months and before heading back home this week, he wanted to take us to spend a day on the nearby lake.  It has been a long time since our family went out on the water and we had an absolutely wonderful time! Red, White And Blue – A Modest Outfit Post

I’m usually not a red, white and blue type of girl.  It’s a fine color combination and all three are on my “color palette”, but I have never been particularly fond of them.  However I do kind of like this outfit 🙂

Red, White And Blue - A Modest Outfit Post

I do most of my shopping for clothing at thrift stores.  I like to find skirts and tops for a dollar each.  Unfortunately that isn’t always a feasible option.  I guess spending money on clothes is a necessary evil, so sometimes you just have to grin and bear it!  This outfit cost about $37, not including my sandals.  Shoes can also be an expensive necessity!  These were about $30.

Red, White And Blue - A Modest Outfit Post

My skirt came from Catos.  I have heard a lot of people recommend it as a great store for finding modest clothing.  I wouldn’t go that far but it is possible to find some nice things there.  The skirt was $20.  The fabric is rayon and it’s nice and lightweight for summer!

My sandals were on the clearance rack at the local French’s Boots & Shoes.  I normally try to have black or brown sandals so that they will match anything, but when I realized how much of my closet contains navy blue clothing, I decided these would be a good investment!

My red cami also came from Catos – it was $8.  It is hard for me to find camis with a high enough neckline (some actually provide more coverage if worn backward!) so I was very pleasantly surprised with this one!  I also like that there are other colors to choose from, so I’m sure I’ll be back for more once my budget allows!

The cardigan actually belongs to my sister Sarah – it is a Rayon Short Sleeves Flyaway Cardigan  from Amazon and it was $5.50!  There are multiple colors/sizes available!  I borrowed this from her for the outfit but I’m going to order one for myself.

My necklace was a gift from my father for my 16th birthday.  You can’t see it well in the picture but it’s a replica of the high priest’s breastplate and he brought it back from Israel for me 🙂

Red, White And Blue - A Modest Outfit Post

My tichel is one that we stock at Hannah’s Headcoverings, although unfortunately we happen to be out of stock right now.  I guess that means it’s time for another trip to Israel! 😉

I’m wearing the flexi-clip Felicity and it’s one of my new favorites.  It’s actually a more brilliant blue than how it looks in the picture.  It is also a limited release item so if you want one, don’t wait too long ’cause we don’t know how long they will last!  And I forgot to calculate the price of the flexi-clip into the mix.  A size large (what I’m wearing) is $21, although I only paid $14.70 because of the consultant discount 🙂

Red, White And Blue - A Modest Outfit Post

Sarah has been on a twin kick lately!  You may have seen her post last week, with pictures of her and Abigail’s matching outfits.  Once I put together this outfit, she liked it so much that she went and bought the same skirt and cami!  She’s borrowing Abigail’s navy blue blouse in this picture, since I’m still wearing her cardigan!  I guess I should get the amazon order placed so that we can really match 🙂

Question: do you like red, white and blue?

Have a wonderful weekend!
