The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Last week I shared part one of our remodel project photo record!  Today I’m sharing pictures of the remodel process in the stove room and our girls’ bedroom.  The photo above is from our girls’ room.  It was taken while we were in the process of moving in, so it is still fairly empty and wide open!  There are more pictures of our room below …

The Stove Room

This picture was taken several days after we agreed to rent the house.  Our parents had gone out of town for a couple days and we children started making lists and plans about what we needed to remodel.  This is the main door that we use to enter our home – it’s on the backside of the house. The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

And this was the view from the door.  The kitchen, dining room and living room are on the left.  You can kinda see how the wall used to be there before we took it out.The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

There was section of rotten floor in this room, which had to be repaired.  We also removed all the old paneling and put up sheetrock instead. The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

We took out the one small window and put in two!The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

The stove room was used as the work station area while we did remodel on the other parts of the house! The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

We repainted the ceiling – which made it look SO much better! The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Since we had to rush to get into the house by a certain date, we did not have time to finish the floor in this room.  So this is what it looked like when we moved in.The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

And in case you haven’t figured it out … we call it the stove room because it’s where the woodstove lives!  This stove started breaking down on us last winter so we are replacing it with a Pioneer Princess wood cookstove – which is actually supposed to be shipped in today!!  We’re definitely looking forward to having a wood cookstove again! The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

We finally had the opportunity to lay the floor about 3 months after we moved in!The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Post floor but pre window trim!  I don’t have a more recent picture but we have since finished out the windows and replaced that door. The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

The Upstairs/Girl’s Room

The area of the upstairs that became our girls’ bedroom is about 15’x30′.  So we use half of it for our beds and the other half for desks, closet, sewing areas, storage and workspace!  This is the “work” side of the room.  The door on the left is the stairs, the door on the right goes into the boys’ room and bathroom. The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

And this is the sleeping side of the bedroom.  Don’t you just love that red carpet? :pThe Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Our first remodel task upstairs was painting.  Since the walls were wood paneling, painting was quite a chore.  We had to use multiple coats of primer AND paint. The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Ruthie has a lot of patience!  We painted the ceiling with a roller but the little grooves between the squares did not have good coverage.  So she insisted on doing them all by brush. It was a lot of work! The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

Laying carpet is my least favorite job!  We had salvaged these pieces from the downstairs area since we were laying hardwood, so we decided to use them upstairs – at least temporarily.  But it was the most stressful task of the whole project!  None of us really knew what we were doing and we were trying to beat the time clock with rented tools.  I never want to lay carpet again! The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

But it does look a lot better than the red stuff, so that’s a plus!  We love the old chimney in the middle of our room!  It’s the dividing point between bed area (behind it) and work area (on this side of it).The Farmhouse Remodel Project – Before & After – Part 2

I think she’s asking “are we finally ready to move and stop living between 2 houses?” 🙂

Stay tuned for part 3 … it should be on the blog later this week!

  1. Family work projects are great bonding experiences! You have made a marvelous transformation!
I love the style of furniture in your stove room. (not so much the color – but love the woodwork on it).
    You’ve made much progress!

    1. I don’t know that the color would be my first choice either but the pieces were already here at the house and I definitely like the woodwork! We actually found a braided rug that matches them so it’s on the floor now and ties it altogether nicely. The stove room is our old-fashioned room and the living room is “modern” 🙂

  2. Wow, what an improvement! It’s so cool to see the transformation, and I love that your family is all working together on this. Thanks for sharing your photos!
