Winter Hues and Happy Thanksgiving!

Hey everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving!! What an exciting time this is for my family!  Thanksgiving day has always been such a special day to me … LOTS of cooking to do and preparations to be made, but whether we are having a lot of guests and extended family or just a few of us, it is so special!

We have SO much to be thankful for, which reminds me … Hannah is doing a “what are you thankful for?” linkup, and anyone who leaves a comment listing some things they are thankful for will be entered into a little giveaway!  This opportunity ends tomorrow so be sure to pop over to this post, and tell us some things you’re thankful for!  Come on … we ALL have things to be thankful for!  Speaking of being thankful for things, I recently came across these quotes:

“We tend to forget that happiness doesn’t come as a result of getting something we don’t have, but rather recognizing and appreciating what we DO have.”

“It is not happy people who are thankful, it is this thankful people who are happy.”

“What if you woke up today with only the things you thanked God for yesterday?”

“The things you take for granted, someone else is praying for.”

So true!

Today I’m sharing one of my new favorite outfits with you!  This outfit always makes me feel feminine and girly … I don’t know if it’s more the layered, lacy top or the spiral skirt, or both together.  Probably both 🙂

I just got the skirt from Goodwill for $4 and the top came from a thrift store for $1.  My mother bought the jacket for me about 9 years ago … I think I’ve had it longer than any other clothing article, and there’s a good reason for it!  The material is velvety and so soft!  The t-shirt came from eBay for about $3.IMG_7758

I bought the headcovering in Israel for about $5, and I am wearing Lilla Rose bobby pins. Speaking of Lilla Rose, stay tuned for a huge black Friday sale coming up!

I found this stray kitty locked up in our garage late one night after being away for a day, and she’s been hanging out around here ever since! She is oh so sweet 🙂IMG_7796 (2)

I put my dogs inside for the pictures but after we had just finished trying to get the cats away, someone let the dogs out too – double trouble!!  So I gave up trying to chase them off and decided they’d just have to be part of it 🙂IMG_7783

My favorite doggies in the whole wide world!  Please excuse their messy hair – they all really needed baths!IMG_7774

Do you see the cedar trees in the background???  We have some beautiful big ones along our road!IMG_7809

I made the necklace and bought the bracelet for $2 at our local thrift shop.  Please excuse my “I’m about to freeze out here!” grin 🙂IMG_7820

I got the shoes from French’s (a western/cowboy boot store) for $21.  They are soft leather and so comfortable!IMG_7848

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, and remember to let us know what you’re thankful for!

With lots of love – Abigail

  1. Very cute skirt! I found a similar one(more patchwork style) at a thrift store as well. Every time I wear it I always have several people ask about it. Ironically, as I read your post and am writing this, I am wearing that skirt with a similar jacket, just in green. 🙂 I love how dressing so comfortable like this, makes me feel so much more feminine. Thanks for sharing. 🙂

  3. Hello! I am visiting for the first time…hopping over from Stephanie’s link-up. It is SO refreshing to see a young person dressing so modestly! What a blessing you are! May the dear Lord keep you ever close to His side. Keep up the great work, and God bless you and your family with a very happy, healthy Christmas season. 🙂

  4. My dear Abigail, what a precious post! Your look simply lovely in your outfit – the skirt is quite beautiful and I just love the colors.

Your pets are oh-so darling and each one warmed my heart.

    1. Thank you Miss Stephanie! I really like the skirt too!

  6. You know I got a library book called Modern Prairie sewing and the have a pattern for that skirt in that book. So if any of you want to sew one just get the book at the library and the patterns you can copy them off on the tracing material.
