Simple Ranch Dressing Recipe

Ranch Dressing 1

I wish I had a quarter for every time someone commented on how good this dressing was or asked for the recipe!  We have made this recipe for years but recently Lydia (my 11 year old sister) did a little experimenting and added a couple dashes of cayenne pepper.  It adds a nice pop for anyone who enjoys a bit of spice.

Ranch Dressing
Yield about 1 cup of dressing.

1/2 cup Mayonnaise (see our easy mayonnaise recipe here)
1/2 cup Buttermilk
1/2 teaspoon Parsley Flakes (dry)
1/4 teaspoon Garlic Powder
1/4 teaspoon Onion Powder
1/4 teaspoon Salt
generous dashes of Black Pepper and Paprika
a couple dashes of Cayenne (optional)

Gradually add the buttermilk to the mayonnaise stirring until smooth.  Add remaining ingredients.  Store in a refrigerator.  Serve.  Yes, it really is that simple! 🙂

Ranch Dip: You can thicken this recipe to make a dip by adding more mayonnaise (or sour cream) until reaching the desired consistency/flavor.

Something that our family has started doing is eating our salad with both homemade Ranch and Italian dressings.  Try it and see!  Maybe we should start a “Ranchalian” movement?!

    1. I am so glad you enjoyed the ranch and am even gladder, that you guys got to stop by! You are welcome for the recipe. I hope you all get to enjoy it as much as we do. Shabbat Shalom, Ruthie

    1. I am thrilled to hear you like it, thanks for letting me know.

Another good way to eat Ranch dressing is to pour a mixture of it and Italian dressing (about half and half) over boneless chicken breast. Sprinkle with Italian spiced breadcrumbs (homemade work great). Bake then serve warm! Very tasty!

      1. Yummy! We will definitely try that. I just made a double recipe of your ranch for the kids. Taste yummy with home grown cucumbers!

  2. Mmmm…. I love homemade ranch and your recipe sounds delicious! I had to giggle about the “Ranchalian” movement 🙂 My precious Grandma often mixed her salad dressings…she said that was the best way to enjoy all of the flavors.

Thanks for sharing with Roses of Inspiration.

  3. Thanks so much for sharing this! I’ve tried making a homemade Ranch dressing recipe but it didn’t taste like the packaged kind so I ended up going back. I really need to save money by so I’m going to try this recipe.

Thanks so much. Pinning! (Found you on Mom’s Morning Coffee)

    1. Hello Heather, I hope this recipe will be as delicious to you as it is for us!

It is a bit thinner than the in-the-bottle store bought Ranch. We like it better this way so we have never tried thickening it (except for a veggie dip).

If you are looking for a dressing that has the same taste and texture as the store bought stuff, with all of it’s chemicals and preservatives… you probably better stick with the stuff from the store:)

I really hope you are able to enjoy this though. Blessings, Ruthie
